Experienced Breeders

We're the breeders behind Lukos Portuguese Water Dogs located in Folsom, CA. Our dogs and pups are raised in our home and are loved as family. We have been involved with the breeding of Portuguese Water Dogs since 2017. We strive to produce high-quality show prospects and Pet companions. Temperament, Health, and dogs that meet breed standard are what we strive for. We enjoy training our dogs, competing in conformation shows, agility, and spending lots of time with them doing a variety of other activities! Can you say WATER!!! We love our dogs dearly and are so proud of their accomplishments.

Our puppies are well-adjusted to the home and socialized with other dogs and people. Our dogs have all mandatory genetic testing and have all needed health exams. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Early socialization, Pee pad, Human Interactions , Puppy Manners, Strangers, Various Surfaces , Noises , Toys, e.g. Ball, Touch Desensitization, Grooming Desensitization, Household Desensitization, Sound Stimulation, Socialized with Adult Dogs, We play noise desensitizing music videos to expose your puppy to sounds that may otherwise trigger a negative response from your puppy (doorbells, fireworks, barking dog, children playing, men talking, etc.).

About us.

I have been involved with the showing and breeding of dogs since I was a child. My parents had West Highland White Terriers and my dad is a retired dog judge. I fell in love with this breed at a dog show and have owned Portuguese Water Dogs for over 14 years. Being able to share this breed with others and they can offer your family is a true joy.

What are you looking for in a companion?

We are sure the list is long. Are you looking for a family pet, a dog for agility and various other activities. Are you interested in confirmation with your dog. Portuguese Water dogs can be a dog full of energy, they are eager to please, fun loving and make great family dogs. They are smart, and curious and training is a must for these dogs.

Finding a Breeder

Ask questions. Get the answers that you need before moving forward and purchasing your dog. Does the breeder have a contract that includes all of the mandatory genetic testing on the Dam and the Sire, will they take the puppy back in the event that you can no longer care for the dog, do they guarantee the health of the puppy? Does the contract include AKC registration of the dog? Does the contract contain a spay and neuter clause. These are just a few of the questions you may ask, I am sure there will be more.

Application

We look to find forever homes for our puppies. Adopting a puppy is a life log commitment and we strive to match puppy personalities with the applicant. Sometimes this takes a while to pick the perfect puppy for you out of our litter. We will always do our best to find the perfect match for you.
